Training
Crossroads Care Hertfordshire works with a local training agency that provides training for our Carer Support Workers. Some aspects of our training programme are delivered in-house.
Our newly appointed Carer Support Workers attend a comprehensive 5 day Induction and undertake shadowing with other experienced members of staff before delivering care alone.
The Induction is structured according to the requirements of the Skills for Care Common Induction Standards. This includes modules around:
- Working Within the Social Care Values Base
- Effective Communication for the Carer Support Worker
- Professional Development and the Carer Support Worker
- Safer Moving and Handling
- Emergency First Aid
- Health and Safety at Work
- The Safeguarding of Individuals
Time is also spent shadowing experienced members of the care staff in supporting individuals who have a wide range of support needs. During this period, feedback on the new CSW’s progress is received from their team leader and from service users and the appropriate support is given. Shadowing allows a controlled and observed opportunity for knowledge and skills gained during the first week of the Induction to be put into practice.
All Carer Support Workers are supported to complete the required training standards in Health and Social Care
Working for Crossroads Care Hertfordshire North offers:

The Book Your Own Breaks service is an extension of the work that Crossroads Care in Hertfordshire already does. However we are looking for a new kind of care worker as well. The online booking system will suit care workers who would like to work flexibly. This means that Care Support Workers will be able to input their availability in just a few clicks. This will make the times that they can work more accessible to carers and their families.
