Opened by the then Stevenage MP Barbara Follett in 1996, the centre looks after eight clients a day from 10am to 4pm with transport to and from the centre provided free of charge. As a result, at least eight unpaid family carers are given the opportunity for a 6 hour break from their caring role each day that we are open. We always involve the clients and carers in the planning and running of the Day Centre. New care plans are in place for each client attending the centre. We use regular client feedback to help shape activities at the centre and clients choose their own lunches which are provided through a community meals service. The day centre is an example of best practice with regard to dementia care, person centred care and carer support. Many of the activities rely on fund raising so that we can provide treats and outings for the clients and their carers. The purchase of a Nintendo Wii and 40 inch TV resulted from a grant bid to the Social Care Institute of Excellence. To find out how you can help the day centre go to Support Us.
